Hi Judith,

You can definitely set up FreedomVoice service to work with your home office. When callers dial your 800 #, you choose how they're routed. Either they can hear an automated attendant greeting with the option for call forwarding and voicemail, or you can have your calls delivered to you immediately on your home phone or cell phone. We also offer local numbers in most area codes that you can use interchangeably with your 800 #. If you're looking more for a home office desktop phone solution (e.g. including the phone) check out our hosted VoIP phone systems called FreedomIQ. This service is a broadband Internet phone solution with all of the same features as FreedomVoice, plus a desktop phone with unlimited local and long distance calling.

I am just getting started in my business. I am an AssistU VA. Can your service be established in a household with a regular home #? Can the regular number still be kept in addition to the 800 #?

Thanks!

Wow - those are some astounding numbers! But it's true - every little bit counts and we should all be making an effort. Over at AdRoll we're celebrating Earth Day by offering a free month of advertising to green businesses (See details on our blog: http://bit.ly/cU7R6s). We feel that it's important to reward those who are truly making a difference every day.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Mark. We're glad to have you with us!

It's definitely easy to take for granted the smaller pieces of what makes up your brand, until you step back and realize what would happen to your marketing efforts if you were to lose them. Building a successful, trusted brand is difficult enough as it is without constantly stumbling backwards and disconnecting with your audience.

Wish I could catch one of your lectures up there in South Bend, sounds like my cup of tea. :)

Agreed! The reality is that 800 is the most memorable prefix. In fact according to recent market research 94% of consumers identify 800 numbers as a toll-free whereas only 70% of consumers identified 888 as a toll-free prefix. If you want to be successful with a vanity number you need to get the 800 prefix. I recommend consulting a keyword search like the one I found here. It will help in the process of finding the best vanity number for your business.

Portability of my 800 number, and FreedomVoice's transparency about it early on, were reasons I chose FreedomVoice as my 800 service provider for http://ElderForestPublishing.com several years ago. And this is a great article about the significance of something as seemingly small as a phone number actually winding up being part of a long-term marketing effort at establishing a brand presence. In my marketing lectures at Notre Dame I often talk about how small efforts/steps add up quickly and become a formidable mass when seen from a birds-eye view. Not so insignificant after all.

[...] Set the WABAC Machine to May 1st, 1993. This is the cutoff date set in 1991 by the FCC for 800 numbers (the only toll free number prefix at the time) to be made “portable,” such that customers can change carriers / service providers without changing their toll free number. The portability of numbers serves two purposes. First, it breaks the grip companies like AT&T had on 800 numbers in the decades prior and encourages greater competition. This inspires service providers to provide only the best service to earn their customers’ loyalty. Second, toll free number portability protects the investment a business makes in promoting and advertising their number as part of their brand. [...]
