What is a toll free number?
Toll free numbers in the U.S. can be dialed from anywhere in the country without paying long distance. These numbers are easily recognized by their 800, 866, 877, or 888 prefix (e.g. “1-800-555-1212”). Since 800 was the first prefix available, toll free numbers in the U.S. are often interchangeably referred as, “800 numbers”.
